I recently attended a protest and city council meeting in Hamilton that dealt with Enbridge’s plans to reverse the direction of flow of an existing pipeline that runs between Sarnia and Montreal. I wrote up this article on the subject.
Although Enbridge denies it, many activist believe this is part of a plan to pipe tar sands oil from Alberta, to the east cost for export to Europe. So far protest against the proposal have been relatively small, however pumping to the east cost will take several regulatory approvals and this is likely to be an issue that escalates in the coming years.
